PS4 system software 8.0 out now, PS5 added to remote play

(Pocket-lint) – A major system software update for PlayStation 4 is available now. It changes, among other things, party and messages – combining them into the same groups.

At the same time, the PS4 Remote Play app for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac has been renamed PS Remote Play, as it will work with PlayStation 5 on its release in November.

PS4 system software 8.0 also adds new avatars, the ability to mute all microphones from the menu, and enhanced two-step verification, which now supports third-party authenticator apps.

Something that has been removed is the ability to create new events and/or access existing ones. Nor will you be able to create private communities anymore, although you will be able to continue to access existing ones.

The parental controls have been enhanced and simplified, with the options to communicate with other players and view content created by other players put into the same setting. Plus, young players can now send an email notification to a parent to request communication features to be turned on for specific games.

You can download system software 8.0 for your PS4 or PS4 Pro now. It will likely be prompted the next time you boot up.

Rock Band 4, All DLC, And Many Controllers Work On PS5 And Xbox Series X

Rock Band 4 the game, all of its DLC, and the previously released plastic instruments you might have already will work on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Developer Harmonix confirmed this in a blog post, stating that all of this will work on day one when the consoles release in November. Harmonix couched its statement with phrases and words like “we believe” and “should” because it cannot guarantee compatibility in all cases for all instruments.

Electronic drum kits and their various adapters should work as well, Harmonix said. In terms of DLC songs, all of them will work on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Additionally, save data carries forward, but only on the same console family.

You can see a rundown of supported controllers below, but note that it is not a comprehensive list.

Rock Band 4 on PS5 and Xbox Series X will be a better experience, too, Harmonix said. There will be a “sizable performance increase” on the next-gen consoles, with the developer calling out load times in particular as an example of how Rock Band 4 will perform better.

“Both the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles are on par with each other when it comes to load times. Impressive across the board,” Harmonix said.

Harmonix also clarified that there will be cross-gen multiplayer support, but only between the same console family.

On PS5, the situation is slightly more complicated when it comes to compatibility for some devices. The PS5’s new DualSense controller has a built-in microphone, and the system will default to this. So singers who want to use a USB microphone will need to change that in the system settings.

PS5 Preorder Info: Console Preorder Bundles May Be Available At Antonline

In the wake of the announcement of the PS5 launch date and price points, the long, tense search for a preorder has begun. Launching November 12 at $500 for the standard console and $400 for the digital edition, the PS5 went up for preorder right after the recent PS5 event, and since then, stock has sold out at all major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and Target.

GameStop had a second wave of PS5 preorders available to preorder on September 25, both online and in stores. Once again, the retailer had a virtual queue. Multiple GameSpot staff members waited in the queue for more than an hour without any success, so online preorders apparently sold out very quickly once again. GameStop issued an update on Twitter confirming that PS5 stock sold out once again. This included a starter bundle that came with Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate edition, PS Plus, an extra controller for $770.

Right now, Antonline might be your best bet for scoring a preorder. The retailer has announced it would launch a new round of PS5 preorders starting today at 11 AM PT / 1 PM ET. The store pages for the actual bundles, however, are currently inaccessible, likely due to the overwhelming number of people looking to get their console. That said, you might still be able to score a preorder once the pages are accessible, so you may want to refresh the pages for the next few hours just in case.

Can You Preorder the PS5 During Amazon Prime Day? No, But Antoline Has Some

The search for PlayStation 5 pre-orders continues as gamers try and get their hands on the next-gen console before its November release, and now they’ll have another chance at it but it’s in an unlikely place.

October 13 marks the start of this year’s Amazon Prime Day and gamers are searching for their own PS5 consoles. However, if you go to the official PS5 page on Amazon there are no consoles to purchase or pre-order as of this writing.

In fact, there are plenty of other games and accessories that PlayStation fans can pick up on the first day of Amazon Prime Day including headsets, storage devices and memberships to the PlayStation Plus online subscription.

They are also selling PS4 games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and much more that will be compatible with the PS5–thanks to backwards compatibility–on the cheap so if you’re starving for some games you can definitely check it out during the two-day event.
