Apple has dropped the price of its EarPods and iPhone wall chargers by $10, after it confirmed that the new iPhones it announced Tuesday would not ship with these accessories.

Its EarPod headphones — a wired alternative to Apple’s Bluetooth AirPods — are now $19 on the Apple Store, a third less than the previous price.

Its 20W power adapter, which lets you charge your phone at a plug socket, is also $19 — this is a new product, and down from $29 for the old adapter, which Apple has now discontinued.

Older iPhone models still on sale on the Apple Store, including the iPhone 11, XR, and SE, will also no longer ship with these accessories, the company said.

At its iPhone 12 announcement on Tuesday, the company said that shipping phones without these accessories would let it use smaller boxes, helping it meet its environmental goals.

“It’s like removing 450,000 cars from the road per year,” Apple executive Lisa Jackson said at the launch event.

Instead of a wall charger, the iPhone 12 will come with a USB-C to Lightning cable, which can be plugged into a computer or wall adapter for charging.

Other phone-markers have already removed chargers and headphones from their boxes, Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight, told Business Insider, but many more companies will likely follow Apple’s lead.

Apple to Allegedly Rekindle ‘MagSafe’ Brand for Magnetic iPhone Case and Wireless Charging Accessories

A Chinese Weibo account going by the name “Kang” this morning posted allegedly accurate information for every product set to be announced at the upcoming Apple event on October 13, including details and launch dates for the full iPhone 12 lineup, and the rumored HomePod mini.

In addition, the original post also claims that Apple will announce a new magnetic iPhone case with “MagSafe” and two official Apple wireless chargers called “MagSafe Charger” and “MagSafe Duo Charger,” one or both of which will have a 15-Watt power output.

The “MagSafe” brand name will resonate with readers who remember Apple’s magnetically attached MagSafe power connector, which first appeared on MacBook Pro models in 2006 but despite its popularity was eventually discontinued across all Apple product lines between 2016 and 2019 and replaced with USB-C.

Back in August, images shared on Weibo that were said to be from the ‌iPhone 12‌ depict a circular array of magnets in the body of the device. The leak was met with speculation that the magnets could be for alignment purposes should Apple release its own wireless charger.

EverythingApplePro, who shared the images on Twitter, also posted an image of an alleged iPhone 12 case with a similar array of magnets built in, which he suggested are “likely for perfect alignment with Apple’s wireless chargers.”

For months ahead of their unveiling, last year’s iPhone 11 series was rumored to feature a Qi-based device-to-device charging feature, allowing for an Apple Watch, AirPods, and other accessories to charge on the back of the iPhones. The feature was expected to be similar to Wireless PowerShare on Samsung’s Galaxy S10. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, however, the feature was abandoned because the charging efficiency did not meet Apple’s requirements.

As it stands, Apple hasn’t released any native wireless chargers for ‌iPhone‌.

PS5 Preorder Info: Consoles Currently Sold Out, PS5 Accessories And Games Available

Now that we know the launch date and price points of the PlayStation 5, the long, tense search for a preorder has begun. Launching November 12 at $500 for the standard console and $400 for the digital edition, the PS5 went up for preorder right after the recent PS5 event, and since then, stock has sold out at all major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and Target.

GameStop had a second wave of PS5 preorders available to preorder on September 25, both online and in stores. Once again, the retailer had a virtual queue. Multiple GameSpot staff members waited in the queue for more than an hour without any success, so online preorders apparently sold out very quickly once again. GameStop issued an update on Twitter confirming that PS5 stock sold out once again. This included a starter bundle that came with Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate edition, PS Plus, an extra controller for $770.

We’re tracking console availability below, and further down, you’ll find links for where to buy the official PS5 accessories and the biggest PS5 games.

Quick look: Where to preorder a PS5

As of our last update, PS5 preorders are sold out at all major retailers.

Which retailers will charge you upfront?

You should know that retailers handle preorders differently when it comes to charging your credit card or PayPal. Amazon doesn’t charge your card until the product ships, while GameStop waits until five days before shipment. Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Sam’s Club will place an authorization hold on your credit card. Though your card won’t actually be charged until the PS5 ships, it’s possible you’ll see a pending charge that will disappear and then come back until release. These authorization holds can affect your available credit.
