Google Announces Rich Results Test Tool Officially Out of Beta Stage
In a recent post on their webmasters’ blog, Google announced that the Rich Results Test tool now fully supports all Google Search rich result features.
The Rich Results Test used to only support four types of structured data – recipes, jobs, movies, and courses, but now it can test for all types of markup supported by Google search results.
With this latest development, Google also announced that it is preparing to deprecate the Structured Data Testing Tool. Here’s the detail of their announcement:
“In addition, we are preparing to deprecate the Structured Data Testing Tool. it will still be available for the time being, but going forward we strongly recommend you use the Rich Results Test to test and validate your structured data.”
What are Rich Results?
These are simply Google search results that occupy more SERP real estate and contain more detail. Here’s a detailed explanation of what rich results are:
“Rich results are experiences on Google Search that go beyond the standard blue link. They’re powered by structured data and can include carousels, images, or other non-textual elements.”

How Does the Rich Results Test Tool Work?
This tool, developed by Google in the last two years, helps website owners test structured data and preview their websites’ rich snippets. According to Google, this final version can now serve website owners better because of the following reasons:
·It shows which Search feature enhancements are valid for the markup being provided
·It handles dynamically loaded structured data markup more effectively
·It renders both mobile and desktop versions of a result
·It is fully aligned with Search Console reports
Google explains that website owners can use Rich Result Test to test code snippets or a URL to a page. This tool returns errors it detects and gives warnings if there’s something wrong about the website being tested.
Getting rid of the errors is very important because this disqualifies a webpage from showing as a rich result. On the other hand, getting warnings means that a particular webpage property won’t show up as part of the rich result. Here’s a detailed explanation from Google:
“Note that errors disqualify your page from showing up as a rich result. While warnings might limit the appearance, your page is still eligible for showing up as a rich result. For example, if there was a warning for a missing image property, that page could still appear as a rich result, just without an image.”
How Rich Results Test Tool Helps Website Owners Improve SEO?
Being equipped with this tool helps website owners evaluate in advance how their website will appear in the SERPs (search engine result pages).
The Rich Result Test tool also helps website owners to determine aspects of their webpages that need to be improved. The errors and warnings they get after they run a test can help them do this.
When a web page is displayed as a rich result in the SERPs, there is a higher chance people will click it, thus boosting the probability of conversion, which means an increase in profits.
